Sorry CB, but you asked for it:

A very ancient couple comes before the divorce court.

The judge says "this is a no fault state and I will grant the divorce. But may I ask how long you've been married?"

In a quavering voice the old lady replies "Been 73 years, Your Honor."

The judge replies "OK, but after all this time, Why do you want a divorce now?"

"We thought we should wait till all the kids were dead."

Staying together for the children

Seems to me that this is the real key, not the state of marriage. You make it work for the kids, or not, whether you're married or not.
