like several other newspapers It's interesting to watch the MSM gang up. They can't get at Bush, so they go after his surrogates. Can they stop Gonzales? Not if he hits back hard. But if he apologizes at all during the hearings, they will gut him. When I read that the media is doing the Democrats work, I think, "no, the Democrats are doing the media's work." The party can't get far without the support and direction from the MSM. So the left running the media actually control the thrust of the party. The party has become an arm of the media.

philly inquirer editorial this morning.. like several other newspapers.. The administration did not make its case for its handling of prisoners when the issue first came up. It seemed to me that, rather than trying and failing, they didn't really try because, out of impatience or arrogance or whatever, they didn't think that such a paradigm shift needed to be vetted and justified. Or maybe they just thought they couldn't prevail in their persuasion. I could see where they were coming from and thought they might have had a good case for all of it (except the lack of judicial review) but I would have liked to see it all laid out so that I could make an informed judgment. That was a lost opportunity. There's been too much water under the bridge since then and this is one of the periodic boil overs.
