I read about a major 8.0+ earthquake in the Aleutians that was calculated to have not produced a significant tsunami. Thus, no tsunami alert was issued for Hawaii, which eventually recorded a one inch wave associated with the earthquake.

At least the last "killer" tsunami.

I tend to agree with you. The Aceh Tsunami was not predictable. The miserable way that George Bush responded certainly was.
