Yesterday CB and I were having a debate about marriage. At one point CB used the word, status, with a parenthetical explanation where she correctly anticipated potential confusion. She also used "pre-requisite" roughtly the same way that I had been using "accomplishment." So I adopted her two words and her usages.

This is an example of how people engage when they're trying to reach an understanding. You can see in that example signs of intelligent life on both sides, that the parties are making an effort to understand and be understood, and that they are discussing in good faith.

Contrast that with this business of "us" and "them." I made a point about focusing on us, American donors, rather than them, the victims. You used those two pronouns to represent entirely different entities and then, when Kumar was confused by it, went off on both him and me.
