Ray,

I’m guessing that The Wall Street Journal is not on your daily reading list. On Thursday they ran an article entitled “Radio’s Bush-Bashing Air America Is Back in Fighting Form.” Some of the highlights:

-- Air America has picked up outlets in Washington D.C., Detroit and Cincinnati. That brings them up to 45 markets.

-- Oddly enough, it has picked up the support of Clear Channel Communications, Inc. They are finalizing a deal that would put it back on the air in Los Angeles on Clear Channel’s KXTA-AM. Air America is now on 22 Clear Channel stations.

-- Air America is the fourth most popular radio station on the Internet with almost 200,000 listeners.

-- Randi Rhodes is tied with Sean Hannity in New York for the talk-show host that listeners spend the most time with each week. However, it should be noted that Hannity has four times as many listeners.

-- Michael Harrison, the editor of Talkers, says that 75-80 percent of the “big time” political talk-show hosts are conservatives.

-- A study by Democracy Radio has reported that national and local conservative programming totals 40,000 hours each week, while liberal programming totals just over 3,000 hours.

-- A small station in San Francisco, KYNS, switched from an all conservative format to Air American and doubled its advertising revenues.

-- Air America is starting to attract the interest of national advertisers.

The most gratifying thing about that list is the great case of whupass that the public is inflicting on the insufferably pompous and completely unfunny Dennis "Bush has a lovely Tush" Miller.

Unfortunately, his program is not up to his usual standards. Not a good format for him. He needs to be able to use four letter words. I have always enjoyed Dennis Miller, though I have to tell you that I was shocked when has came out of the closet and declared himself a Bush supporter.

Obviously MSNBC is not a good place for anyone to be. Chris Matthews is consistently at the head of the MSNBC pack. He would probably garner some significant (by cable standards) ratings if he switched to either CNN or Fox. Pair Matthews and Hannity. God, that's a brilliant idea!
