NO CHEERLEADING ...

... is the first rule stated in this board's header and the header of this boards predecessor.

I am seldom accused of violating that rule. <g>

Fellow Ihubber,

<< Many on this board live in some Q fantasy land with IMJ IMO. >>

I've certainly taken my share of irreverent shots along the way, but as a long-time, long-term, QCOM shareholder and participant in SI's wireless discussion boards, I am moved to give credit where credit is due.

Dr. Irwin Mark Jacobs (IMJ) has been with QUALCOMM since its founding, has been out front all of that time taking the point, and just as importantly -- perhaps most importantly -- taking the heat in undaunted fashion during the difficult and arduous time it took to mature cdma applied to a mobile environment from concept to commercial reality, into a mass 2nd generation market for mobile wireless telephony, and on into the emerging cdma based G3G mass market.

IMJ is an optimistic, enthusiastic, and energetic individual, that now leads a very high quality management team that includes two of his sons, and the company he leads is now a very successful, highly profitable, cash rich, and after some regression now rapidly growing $5 Billion high-tech corporation with a $71 Billion market cap -- 2nd or 3rd largest on any given day in the communications equipment industry, whose rich valuation is probably better justified than that of many of its much larger but not as richly valued peers.

There have been many well known industry lights, and some lesser known and more unsung individuals that helped build the QUALCOMM of today.

Andrew Viterbi, Harvey White, Allen Salmasi, and (now board member) Richard Sulpizio have all departed. Talented individuals such as Roberto Padovani, Klein Gilhousen, Chuck Wheatley, Butch Weaver, Franklin Antonio, Ed Tiedemann, Steven Altman, Louis Lupin, and many others all chose to contribute to QUALCOMM's growth by playing important and challenging, but considerably less public roles, than IMJ.

Through the fun early times before most of us ever heard of a company called QUALCOMM, into the challenging and sometimes difficult times that followed the milestone AirTouch funded concept demonstration 15 short years ago (11/03/89), and on into the commercially successful years, Dr. Irwin Mark Jacobs has been the glue that binds.

My apologies to Ramsey for this momentary lapse into CHEERLEADING mode.

Bring back the bubble!

Best,

- Eric -
