Suma, the theoretical utility of such devices would be great.

The practical application, however, has been lagging greatly.

The MedicAlert bracelets are perhaps the first tangible example of this, although
I still question how the data gets there and how it is accessed. In an emergency
the data would need to be totally open to the caretakers, so a security device is out
of the question in this case(where the bearer may be unconscious).

From a medical professional's point of view a transferrable medical database for each
patient would be a useful tool in this day and age where we still rely heavily on faxed
paper copies and little information is directly transferrable due to the lack of a common
standard of file formats and filing. This is even more important in a day and age where
people seem to change healthcare providers every two or three years depending on premiums.
