The big lie was not that the intelleignce services were "lying" -- the big lie was that WMDs were the cause celebre for the war. There are plenty of countries developing WMDs and we have no right to invade them either. We had absolutely nothing on which to base a claim of "self-defense" from Saddam due to WMDs -- nada -- nothing. The UN on the other hand had a strong hand to play -- Saddam had not lived up to his requirements for adequate accounting for WMD destruction. The UN had something -- we had nothing.
