I have not seen this issue addressed, but this is what I wonder about (and then I wonder if our government wondered about it at all, and I think, no, probably not...)

If the elections are a landslide for the Shiites, and they begin to persecute the Sunni (and I have to think there is a huge reservoir of anger against the Sunni, since the Sunni have been killing Shiites pretty regularly- including Shiite clerics) will we offer sanctuary to Sunni who may have helped us? Will we offer sanctuary to Iraqis who worked with American forces? I think it is quite possible they may be killed after we leave. Now, IF we offer such amnesty, it seems to me quite obvious that we could get many new operatives for Al Qaeda, and other terrorist organizations mixed in with the candidates, and I have no very great hope we could ferret such folks out.

It will be interesting to see what evolves. But I wish there was more discussion of possible outcomes.
