Thanks for the many fine suggestions. From what I can see, just changing to Mozilla seems to have cured a ton of the problems I was having. I also downloaded the free Ad-aware program.

I assume my feelings are universal: I really, truly resent other computers putting anything on my computer (pop-ups, cookies, etc.) that I haven't specifically (and with limitations) requested. It is the cyber equivalent of somebody parking in my driveway, or borrowing my towel at the YMCA.

There is a wonderful computer thread that THE COW is moderator of and on it there are a lot of top notch computer literate people who will help you.

Every problem that I have had I post there and within 12 hours there are replies.. Great S.I.site . One of the most helpful anyway.
