When are we going to abandon those places because we have failed to stop the killing?

Why do you think the two are analogous? Detroit and DC are both in the US and populated mostly by Americans. Iraq is a separate country and culture, and populated mostly by Iraqis. Your comparison makes no sense.

A point to this may be that we have enough work to do here on our own soil and with our own people. Things are certainly not perfect here and I think we have to make ourselves stronger from within... By extending ourselves we are only weakening ourselves. Just my opinion and I respect yours.
