If we give a reason for people to be insurgents, and if we do not live up to our obligations as an invader and army of occupation to maintain security, then it is in fact our fault that insurgents kill Iraqis. The insurgents have their own crimes to answer for -- and we have ours. There was no insurgency prior to our invasion -- we, along with the insurgents, created the insurgency through our actions and they through theirs. We kill civilians by the tens of thousands -- but they kill civilians with a calculated viciousness that we would never (hopefully) entertain. Yet when an Iraqi civilian dies from a car bomb, we share in the blame.
