Sure it does - Provides a clutch for those of us who are not strong enough to stand against the uncertainties of life on their own, supports them by thinking they are actually communicating with some higher being who is going to make their painful existence meaningful.

Other than that, benefits of prayer are no different than meditation and placebo pills - serenity through mild self-hypnosis, continued optimism, positive attitude, etc.

I'm curious, what do you think prayer does or accomplishes? I know praying gives many people psychological comfort, but beyond that... what are you thinking it does.
