Believe it or not, Southeast Asia has a long history of trade with Brazil. Brazil's good gesture is expected and welcomed there. Better put those armed forces to good use (humanitarian cause) instead of twiddling their thumbs and toes.

Elmatator - the aircraft carrier will do some good. Sumatra is really messed up - most ports not functional on west side, many roads blocked. The crew will gain experience in an intense operations environment.

Brazil does not have an agenda in that part of the world, and Brazilians are well liked.

If we were starving on Sumatra, we might have a different attitude. When California falls into the ocean, we will need a lot of help.

There might be signs saying "Brasileiro Go Home! - please leave the footballs"...

I view this as a very good thing.

Now for real help for the Asians. FIFA and UEFA to stage benefit match

"FIFA and UEFA, which has also pledged aid to the FIFA/AFC Tsunami Solidarity Fund, have decided to organise a solidarity match on a grand scale in a major European stadium in February," FIFA said in a statement released on Friday.

<<We will field U.N. Abassador Ronaldo, his mate Ziadane, Ronaldinho Gaucho and Kaka. Stadium will fill to capacity and we can easily get the millions.
We already forced two wars to stop to see Pele playing. Congo and Biafra Wars as the word got out: Stop the war or no match. They put the weapons aside for a weekend.>>

FIFA said the joint solidarity fund it had set up with the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has already received several donations, adding that what it called the "football family's solidarity endeavours" are multiplying fast.

FIFA has already pledged 2 million Euros for the fund and the AFC another 1 million Euros to restore footballing infrastructure in the devastated region and to donate football equipment (balls, shirts, boots, goals etc) to the associations or their members.

"Several associations, notably Australia, England, Germany, Greece, India, Malaysia, Portugal, Romania, Spain and Turkey, have expressed a wish to arrange charity matches with a view to donating the revenue to the solidarity fund," FIFA added.

The December 26 tidal waves triggered by an earthquake killed more than 153,000 people and have left more than a million others injured and homeless in the 13 nations affected across South and Southeast Asia
