You see, John, this is alot like Vietnam in that we are losing kids every day and that it seems we are losing the war.

I disagree with your reasoning. Its a lot like Vietnam because we are dealing with a native insurgency that disappears and reappears at will. We clear out an area and six months later its repopulated. We do well against standing armies such Kuwait, 1991 but do not do well against insurgencies.

However, the objectives of Vietnam and Iraq and very different. In Vietnam, we went in battling proxies of Communism and Soviet Russia. We went in with an imperialistic ideal of spreading our form of Democracy.

Huh? Spreading democracy is all Bush talked about after the WMDs issue was proven to be bogus.

In the Middle East, I honestly feel it is different. The people of the Middle East have attacked us at home, in New York. We have struck back in the heart of the Arab world. This is not a war that we started or chose. Rather, it is one where we overtly decided that the best defense was a very aggressive offense.

I disagree. Its a war we chose to start. It was the wrong thing to do. For those of us who knew well before the war started that it was the wrong war, we are pained by the daily reminder of the lives that have been destroyed by this war. Worse.....that if it continues.........it will be America's undoing.
