I have some experience with this unfortunately. They don't have to be going that fast. Imagine walking around on a big bus that is traveling 10 mph doing your job and without warning you hit a tree and instantly stop. Since you can't see it coming people and shit just fly. We were at 12 knots and and did a double bounce that hurt several but luckily no deaths, but I can clue you 12 knots to 0 in a half second or less is not pretty. Someones career is over. There is only one way this can happen and that is to be lost. The Navy is not fond of folks running their boats or ships being lost.
