Jeff King the tight end of VT football and who played for Pulaski County High School in Pulaski Va. will join the basketball team this week. He scored over 25 pts per game in high school. Will add size and bulk to the boards as b-ball tries to get out of the cellar of the ACC.

gregor, Where did you see those rankings? I have not seen any but I do not follow football that closely.

My guess is that it would be better to start high than low. I think everyone at VaTech knows how quickly they can drop so I see no psychological benefit to working up the ladder.

It seems to me, if team A is rated # 6 and loses to team B which is ranked # 20, then team A ends up ranked 14 and team B is 16. There seems to be a bias that the rankings based on analysis of team strengths and weaknesses still outweigh any given one day performance on the field. Not sure it makes sense. It can be debated either way depending on the teams and the context of other games played.

I really believe Auburn (and VaTech too) was hurt by the low preseason rankings.

BTW, I think the Hokies did well this year - much better than I expected.
