Thanks. So, if I'm understanding correctly, "passive" is a way of using sonar to figure out other ship positions, without giving away your own. But the only way to figure out a sea mount, would be "active" which would be more noisy than you'd like to be?

If the "charts were off", why would the Capt. not get some consideration for that condition? He was working with "best info available"? (Again, asking from ingnorance)
