The Jacksonians were an insurgency of the new-rich and illiterate classes. Something akin to a second American Revolution. Similar in many ways to the election of Reagan, and his associated self-destructive economic policies, in reaction to years of similar groups feeling disenfranchised by our republican form of government.

Jackson's deep suspicion of the credit system and the expansion of the right to vote both increased individual liberty.

But none of his policies was able to address the corruption which is inherent in a representative republic. Switzerland is an example of the near elimination of corruption associated with a democracy in comparison with a representative republic.
