moenmac--Wireless requires a different mindset than wired. Verizon thinks like a wired company: Put most of your resources where most of the people are--in big cities and more populated areas. Ignore sparsely populated areas on the assumption that capital costs per subscriber are higher than in high density areas. What Verizon and other traditional companies don't understand is that wireless is not attached to a specific location but travels with the subscriber. Chances are that the total demand for service in your remote area is NOT just from those who live there but from those passing through. A service that allows access from virtually any location is more desirable and will justify higher fees. The old guard at Verizon simply see wireless (even their own) as undesirable competition for POTS (plain old telephone service).
