The question you should ask yourself is whether mandela, israelis, etc ever targeted innocent civilians. Whenever they did, if they did they were committing a crime and should be punished. The question to the pals was when they were not targeting civilians. Now with Abu Mazen, there is an opportunity. I hope this former terrorist becomes a hero to both the pals and the israelis. Breaking from arafatism is a prereq for that. The Stern gang never ruled israel and the ANC never rule South Africa.

In the early days of Israel, when they lacked military strength, some Jewish people were terrorists (ask the Brits if you doubt this). Some of them later became prominent in government

The Stern gang was a splinter group; most of what the Irgun did wouldn't even be called terrorism today because they attacked military installations; and Hagganah disapproved and brought them both to heel at the earliest possible moment. Would that the Palestinians were in any remote sense equivalent to the Hagganah, the Irgun and the Stern gang, there would have been peace long ago.

No, for the Palestinian, terror has always been the first choice, not the last; and civilians the preferred target. Who invented airplane hijacking and suicide bombing?
