I agree Swiss voters, like California voters in referendums, have often made choice that have later seemed especially poor to the voters themselves. But such is life. Having discovered their mutual error, they don't have the enervating option of "blaming it on the government".

One of the most refreshing aspects of Switzerland is the manner in which most people feel their government is "us", rather than "them". I think this alienation in America, "the government is them", is one of the primary causes of anti-social behavior. Democracy also precludes that peculiarity of fascism where everyone in Germany was "simply following orders".

Personally, I feel democracy is superior to our republican form of government.

One thing about Switzerland that perhaps has not had enough
recognition is the 1300T gold sale (the largest of any country
under the Agreement) is concluding soon. I think this month ??

This removes about 7 tonnes gold per week from the physical
sell side.
