If you want a society that doesn't blow innocent people up, and doesn't torture them accidentally, then you will have to accept you will not get the same results, information-wise, as a government more enthusiastic about thumbrscrews and electricity (although I recently read an article that said torture isn't all the reliable anyway, so who knows?) I'd rather live with risk, than live in a government that no longer abides by the presumption of innocence- which (imo) is a major protection for all US citizens, and is much more important than the "safety" we might secure by throwing it out the window.
