Defeated John Kerry admits: 'I let down supporters'

SENATOR John Kerry has spoken for the first time of his disappointment at losing his bid for the White House, and how he believes he let down those who believed in him.

In an exclusive interview conducted a week after the 2 November election but only now being prepared for publication by Newsweek magazine, the failed Democratic Party candidate acknowledged that he failed to connect with voters.

"I’m not going to lick my wounds or hide under a rock or disappear. I’m going to learn. I’ve had disappointments and I’ve learned to cope. I’ve lost friends, a marriage; I’ve lost things in life," the twice-married Kerry told Newsweek.

He took issue, however, with accusations that his speaking style was "soporific", conveyed the sense that he was disappointed in his speechwriters and spin-doctors and appeared resentful of the media.

"The pundits have never liked me," he told Newsweek. "Is it the way I look? The way I sound?"

Kerry’s nephew, Jose Ferreira, had told the senator how intensely loyal his supporters had been. "Those are the people I let down," Kerry reportedly said
