Yes, the Magdalene Sisters movie was very touching. What struck me most about the situation with the Magdalene Sisters laundries is that the Catholic population of Ireland was so brainwashed and beaten by the Church's teachings that they actually believed that girls who were raped or got pregnant deserved to be turned into slaves for the Catholic sisters (and inadvertently, sex toys for some of the priests) as punishment for their sins.

What kind of healthy parent would surrender their own teenaged daughter to to be indentured, ruined and driven crazy? A lot of these girls died in the custody of the Magdalene laundries. This is the kind of thing I mean when I say that the power the Catholic Church held over most of the Irish was extremely unhealthy for the populace.
