All of the imagery- the old bitch gone in the the teeth, For two gross of broken statues,For a few thousand battered books- all of this refers to the fight for "civilization"- which one's country always claims one is fighting for. Pound is making his own comment on the propaganda of the time, by turning it inside out. Or at least I think that is what he is doing- so one's country, rather than being that heroic "SHE" who needs protecting with one's death, or my country tis of THEE- is an old bitch gone in the teeth.
