You can help take the FCC's mind off of dirty words and mammary peek-a-boos by lodging a complaint with the commissioners over that scandal. As noted on Friday the $240,000 in taxpayer money paid to Williams to shill for the Bush administration isn't the first instance of propagandizing of this kind. Blogger Roger Ailes (no relation to Fox CEO Roger Ailes) provides the email addresses of FCC commissioners and a sample letter to help you take action, along with the FCC "payola" rule which clearly states: "When anyone pays someone to include program matter in a broadcast...Both the person making the payment and the recipient are obligated to disclose the payment...Failure to disclose such payments is commonly referred to as "payola'' and is punishable by a fine of not more than $10,000 or imprisonment for not more than one year or both." So far, Williams' column has been dropped by its distributor, Tribune Media Services while others, like the LA Times, have been vocal about their reluctance to consider him as a guest in the future. But this will all have been in vain should the other journalists who are surely engaging in the same unethical behavior not be investigated and charged AND should the administration get off unscathed. As many have pointed out, these are strictly Soviet tactics, unworthy of a nation that fancies itself "free." ============= This is Bush. This is the Liar. This is the Deserter still in business. This is NOT the US of A.
