"That fits with what I've observed of Pipes' efforts to create a culture of suspicion in society, stemming from instructions given nationwide for letters to the editor to be written labeling as anti-Semitic anyone who criticizes policies of Israel."

It actually goes much further than that. Personally I am totally indifferent to the policies of Israel. It is a sovereign nation on the other side of the world; it can do as its citizens please with no complaint from me.

But that is not tolerant enough for some; they go a step further and attack anyone who criticizes U.S. policy towards Israel as anti-Semitic.

One would think that, as a U.S. citizen, one has the right to criticize our policy toward other nations, such as Israel, Cuba, Saudi Arabia or whoever. But no, one doesn't, at least not without being castigated as anti-Semitic, ignorant, hateful and a sympathizer towards anti-U.S. terrorists.
