Don't know how gender affected this but with humans, it's always in the mix.

There are a consequences of the attitude displayed in that statement. Unhealthy ones, IMO.

If we assume that anytime something unfavorable happens to a woman it's because she's a woman and that the anti-discrimination folks should come to her rescue, how can we ever get past gender-bias. The same thing is the case for any group that is perceived as or perceives itself as an underdog. Should the anti-discrimination champions come charging any time something unfavorable happens to a black, a Jew, a fat person, a Muslim, a Christian (as some people see it), a gay, etc, how can we ever get past suspicious groupism. And how can any of these groups ever be truly equal.

As a feminist, I think it's an important step for women to be treated as individuals without someone automatically thinking sexism. Only then are we truly equal.

I'd like to see some indicator of gender bias at play before calling in the gender police.
