Beijing. (Interfax-China) - Trade turnover between Russia and China exceeded $21 billion in 2004, Russian trade representative to China Sergei Tsyplakov told Interfax.

"In 2004, the volume of trade turnover between Russia and China stood at $21.23 billion, of which Russian exports to China accounted for $12 billion to $13 billion and Chinese imports to Russia totaled $9.1 billion," Tsyplakov said.

Last year, Russia ran a $3.03 billion surplus in its trade with China, he said.

Trade between the two countries grew by 32% in 2003, and 34.7% in 2004, the largest increases in the history of Russian-Chinese business relations, the official said.

The task of bringing trade turnover to $20 billion was set by Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao during the latter's visit to Moscow in May 2003.
