France, in its usual state of delusion, THOUGHT it had the best military in Europe. The Germans overran it in 6 weeks. THe Brits were luckier; they had the Channel. And Hitler had never planned on war with them (in fact, he wanted them as allies, considering them basically Aryan) and had made no preparations to cross the channel or defeat the RAF (a necessity for that crossing). His generals wanted to delay the start of war by at least 6 months and better a year to really get ready. The navy was adamant, knowing it was no match for the British Navy. He wouldn't do it, possibly because he expected he would only have a short lifespan. And Dippy is already using this as an excuse.
