"You are welcome to prove me wrong, but the last significant medical discovery I remember coming from Canada is insulin in the 1930's. Not exactly a sterling record. The US can credibly claim leadership in this area"

The one difference between Canada and Americans is That Sir FREDRIK BANTING(insulin inventor) Never sold the patent for PROFIT! So that the world would benefit immediately (rich or poor). I should hope the U.S is in a leadership role! 260 million people!

I may reply to some of this later. For now, I just want to point out that you are misunderstanding my entire response. I an neither advocating (at this point) nor criticising the Southern alternative. I was simply pointing out the principles behind some of the extreme opinions and "arguments". For instance...I was not preaching socialism as an "argument". I was simply acknowledging another view.

For the record, I am a Capitalist...a pragmatic Capitalist...

As for Canadian medicine, you might look up Sir William Osler, Dr. Bethune, Wilder Penfield, the discovery of "pablum", open heart surgery, mobile blood units, Bethune rib Shears, etc. John Hopkins owes much to the great William Osler.

But I digress...

Once again...I was giving a general summary of some of the opinions involved and the principles that inform them. Carry on, Doctor.
