zofsilence, if you can forget about the fact that Bush is the one trying to change the system and think it through, you will be able to make a rational decision. It simply boils down to calculating your own personal cost/benefit analysis.

1) What is your NPV on SS benefits including private account under the Bush plan?

2) What is your NPV on SS benefits under the current plan?

3) Which is greater?

4) Choose the path which is great.

Again folks, this isn't about partisan politics. It's about what makes each of you richer. If going with Bush's plan makes you richer, then that is the choice you should vote for.

Or if you are more macro-minded, think about the same thought process, but insert all participants in place of just you.
