I have a cheap mp3 player that doesn't allow playlists that makes you scroll through the songs. It is an RCA lyros actually, you can see it on amzn.

The problem with the screen is, the time it takes to paint the screen with the song title makes the click time to move through the songs too slow. So the ipod shuffle solved this problem by eliminating the screen.

I don't know, I paid $129 or so for mine a while ago, and it is larger than the ipod shuffle which looks a lot nicer and stores more songs and lasts longer per battery. I think the shuffle is ok for what it is, a tiny mp3 player, but I will stick with the ipod mini for me. The only thing is that for roller hockey and some other sports its better to have a flash player.

I really can't see any reason why anyone would want this when they are many similar designs already out there.

But of course that doesn't mean it will be cool to have for those who want the latest gizmo.

Yes I think it's an ajunct to iPods. I think that consumers who are indiscrete will buy them. iPod users tend to be that way. It's convenience and style over substance. Tide sells a lot of detergent at premium prices even though detergent is detergent. At this price point I think people are not going to do a lot of shopping around.

That shopping around has gotten to be a HUGE pain in the neck. For instance I'm not cell phone equipped mostly because I just can't bring myself to figure out how to change my current SBC/DSL set up. There are a gazillion crappy phones out there with terrible service and I just don't have the time or inclination to shop.

This is a digital version of the sony walkman. Having display and next/back buttons is nice - but really it is not as nice as search/speak and play. So, this is a good compromise if the price can be driven down this low.

Anybody who has a sony walkman or some such thing that they use when they go for a jog or something could move to this. Not bad for that segment. Also, kids in lower wage demographics. I think this is not such a bad idea at all...

Reports are that the stores have already sold out of their initial supply.
