Yes, that is a good point. But for most American's social security turns out to be the primary source of income in their retirement. Call it poor planning or poor education. Whatever the reasons, we need to ensure that our gov't works in our fiduciary interests. And investing my (and my kids) hard earned money in T-Bills is a slap in the face. I'm old, but I still have at least a 10 year working horizon ahead of me. I want to use that time to earn as much as possible. Investing in T-Bills for me is retirement suicide because it doesn't even keep up with inflation.
