The whole Jay Marvin episode as it relates to SI and RB is explained here: chicagotribune.com

As I noted earlier, Marvin has disavowed himself of Gary Dobry who I blame for his career going in the toilet.

As for Marvin's politics, I couldn't pick him up down here in CT so all I know is the little I've read from him. But, in general, I think politics like most other things is fine if done in moderation.

I've found that most scales are circular, politics being no exception. For example, love and hate are exact opposites, yet, as the saying goes, there's a thin line between love and hate. Same with being a genius and being a lunatic, or being deliriously happy vs. being deliriously sad. As regards politics, I view the far left and the far right as being equally "dangerous."

And??

Few years ago a colleague I worked with was a far left liberal socialist/marxist: Here he was in a high paying job, enjoying the fruits of his labors: nice porsche, nice house, went to the Opera, plays, ballet, ate at nice restaurants. However every chance he got he would go on and on about how bad the US was because we had too many right wingers in the government.

Nowhere is it written that liberals (even socialists, which I'd guess your colleague was not) have to take a vow of poverty. Have you ever been to France or Italy?
