Yes, you're right about that. I do think that the Shuffle would be improved by a display.

But I also agree with you that they'll a lot of these. The way I would use a device like this is that I would load it up with a playlist and then biff off to the gym or get on my bike and go for a nice long ride. I would probably just allow the songs to play in order, and wouldn't interact with the device at all. So I wouldnt' care about the lack of a display.

I sometimes use my iPod that way. Other times, I very definitely need the display, as I am using it more as a portable music library. Yesterday I was sitting in a friend's house and he brought up Bruce Hornsby. I said that I thought his latest album was interesting. My buddy hadn't heard it, so I whipped out my iPod, connected it to his computer speakers, and we were listening to the music in seconds. Very nice. Now he wants an iPod.

Different people use these devices in different ways. For me, the bigger iPod makes more sense. Other people have different needs. Some will have both kinds of iPod. I predict that the Shuffle will sell in the millions.
