Oh, I agree.

The day they turned our forces back from baghdad I believed it was a *serious* strategic mistake.

(Bush I and Powell wanted someone else --- anyone, I guess --- to do the 'dirty work'.)

It's always a mistake, when out bear hunting to wound a bear and then leave him alive in the woods... (especially if you think you might ever be visiting those woods again.)
