The great socialist state of Washington voted
down charter schools again this year because
of effective campaigning (teacher's union scare tactics)
and that report.
They point to a voter passed legislation
that had certain formula of child-teacher
ratio which has not been funded (I-728) the last two
years because of budget concerns, (GovLocke last
speech points out that 'tough' decisions had to be
made without saying it outloud-- also to note he says
he is the educating-governor ad naseum) the WEA (teacher's union) said undermined their ability to 'teach'
rather than to parrot the WASL (those dreaded 3 R's that
were being forgotten in favor of making socialdemolib-
model students cookie-cuttered for Bellingham).

Sorry for the long runon sentences, I was taught in public
schools.

Lo and behold I read (at least I can do that) a PI story
which again is lib-slanted but with facts (hey some math-
I'm fairly decent at) and I quote:

The board is struggling to close a budget gap projected at $12.2 million for 2005-06 -- and larger in the future -- if no programs are eliminated.

"Our board is deeply committed to racial equality and social justice," Butler-Wall said after the CEASE meeting. "In fact, that's why we are looking at every dollar to make sure it is being spent on what matters most."

Manhas laid out a proposal last month to close up to 20 schools beginning in 2006 to address chronic budget crises and to free up money for a five-year plan that focuses on narrowing the achievement gap between lower-performing minority students and higher-performing white students.

Educating the district's 47,000 students currently uses only 70 percent of the capacity of the 94 schools in use, administrators have said.

The School Board ultimately must approve any school closures. But a series of board-led community meetings to discuss criteria for shutdowns begins next week.....
blah blah blah......
its here....

Wait a minute.... the teachers are having their hands out
DEMANDING more money claiming poor conditions (child-teacher
ratio) and then this 'fact' is presented without the irony it represents....
my math must be kiltered or my reading is flawed or I am
wasting my time writing this as if I was the only one who
found this confounding and laughable.
Oh well maybe I should take a course or two---
at least they are going to make a case about the ratio
more solid, I think.
