It is incremental. At best the savings from benefit reduction doesn't occur 'till 2050, 45 years. In the meantime we have record budget and trade deficits, the dollar is tanking. We are on the cusp of the huge risk of our trading partners not financing our spending. We have Europe coming together with a strong Euro, we have China evolving towards an economic powerhouse. It's easily conceivable that we could be the 3rd most important world economy in the near future, with all that implies for political and military power. That's the real nightmare. Unless we get our house in order, now.

I wonder if we will ever get some real conservatives in power, so we can move towards solving the real problems.
