I think it's reasonable to infer from that that he might question how you could be fully patriotic without that relationship.

I see it more as "there are no atheists in foxholes."

I personally think the job of President is so enormous and tough every minute of every day, that I believe it quite possible the President Bush understands and believes that he benefits greatly from a Universal Presence.

As a matter of fact, unless all of the Presidents of the US were complete hypocrites, they must have all believed in this Universal Presence. Otherwise, why would they have gone to any church?

Even Bill Clinton, and Jesse Jackson, and any number of others, including John Kerry, have made a complete show of going to the effort of going to church.
