And some are just lazy. I've offered work to men holding the signs and they refuse work. A lot are just looking for spare change to buy their next drink. Helped out a woman who stopped me in grocery store parking lot a few weeks ago, claimed she needed to buy food for her kids. Gave her a couple of bucks, then I went into store, when I was left I saw her coming out of liquor store.

Actually, I've always thought that this was the central belief of Christianity. Not the fake christianity that Bush (people are poor because they are stupid and lazy) practices but the real religion.

Then again, elephants help each other as do cats (and they aren't even very sociable). Empathy is a very basic emotion and is present in many animals.
