Eric: Always appreciate your input, but I wonder what your point is. Qualcomm makes money based on royalties and chip sales, not on market shares. Thornley's slide showed Qualcomm's estimate of 170 million cdma/wcdma handsets, as the numerator, over a denominator of 596 million, representing Strategy Analytics estimate of total handset sales. Given that the numerator and demoninator are based on distinct estimates by different parties, no one in his right mind would assume that Qualcomm would get 29% of a much larger market without substantially increasing its own estimate. And, even if somehow the market share number is misleadingly high, since Qualcomm only makes money on royalties and chips, what difference does it make. Appreciated your post on the changes at Cingular...
