If all of these facts were known, I don't understand why people would build in an area where there are historical records of mud slides?

The first thing one should consider when buying a home or raw land is the geology of the area. We looked at a piece of property at Picnic Point last year. It had a beautiful western exposure and a lovely, unobstructed view of the Puget Sound and the Olympics, but it was on the side of a hill that was all clay. We know that land will slide into the water one of these days. The people of La Conchita must have realized that possibility existed there too.

Some of us are more willing than others to take that risk.
