-gg, that should be classified info.<g> But seriously, I think they have not started yet. And if China decides to do it, they can finish it in a year or two. They are now doing the research to build a bridge from HaiNan to Mainland (22.5 kilometers). Here is the news (I would assume you read in Chinese?<g>)

And the bridge from HK to Macao-Zhuhai perhaps already is under construction.

So those who are worried about the economy in China would collapse will have a long wait. Just all those infrastructure construction will support the economy for some time to come<g>

J, I forgot to mention there is another suggestion floating around, which is to fill the sea. The shortest distance bet. FuJian PingTan Island to Taiwan XinZhu city is only 13 kilometers, so it is not difficult to fill it with soil and make it into land. Personally, I think this is a better idea and cost less than the tunnel thing, and will solve the problem once and for all<g>
