It is not necessary to believe in a religion religiously either and few do.

I'm no expert but if a reasonable person were to read the Christian bible you would come, IMO, to the conclusion that what Jesus preached was the ten commandments, unconditional love and forgiveness and maybe a little bit about prayer and fasting, which is hardly something to go to war over or spend billions of dollars defending. Yet people do go to war and send other people to do die for them and they do so for their own egocentric and economic reasons.

I've also seen scientists in the earth sciences go own something akin to a military campaign to promote their own theories simply because they detested the other guy or for their own egocentric and oftentimes economic reasons.

Your statement is non-sensical...

"But it is not necessary to "believe" science religiously;

Religion preaches the study and understanding of creation (science)

"The same can hardly be said of religion."

What can hardly be said of religion?

From Christian doctrine: When Jesus spoke to the masses he was referencing the oppression of strict interpretations vs using their own heads (what people do in 'science' when existing doctrine doesn't support a particular observation) "Be yee the living Book," ... or something like that.

You lab cloak clerics are cut from the same bigotted mold as religious extremists.
