Actually buying the market leader (or #2) is a good way to jump start a new business line. If Flash is going the way of DRAM (which it appears to be), then Spansion may be attractive to all of the Dramurai. Micron and Infineon have both already announced they are entering the business, Samsung is the leader in NAND, how far behind can everyone else be?

Flash is a growing market, but has shrinking margins. Success will only be available to the largest volume producers. Therefore, Spansion has a future, if not with AMD/Fujitsu, then with another memory company.
