You really believe that research would stop if Big Pharma lowered prices?
I still await your list of sterling accomplishments by socialized medical systems.

How many drugs have come out of the Canadian gov't medical system?

This Company Use to Print Money! No Company is going to willingly lower prices.
Of course not. That's not what they're in business for. OTOH, if 1 in 2,000 molecules makes it to market as a drug, and only 1 in 3 of those makes money, you'd better have a backlog of profits or you're DEAD!

Government has a role in some areas.
Yeah. We saw how well they did with public housing.

docters up here do not have the stress of being sued everyday for every procedure. Dealing with the many insurance co. etc.
And now you're onto something! The American legal system needs modification- -badly. OTOH, the Dem Party is owned and operated by the American Trial Lawyers Association. Good luck getting change from them.

And the insurance system here burdens doctor's offices with tons of paperwork- -and denies patients needed care without them even knowing it.
