we believe we're doing good by "recycling"

I recycle my cardboard, but glass, tin, plastic and whatever else they want me to recycle goes in the garbage can. Someone is making a profit on this, right? And their profit starts with people washing out containers for them. When recycling is a law, this is forced labor! Slavery even, as there is no compensation. If they paid me a nickel a year as a token gesture, I'd be happy to play ball. But until then I refuse to give away my labor for no compensation. I have better things to do than rinse out dog food cans!
