Evergreen Solar lands $100M contract
Tuesday February 21, 9:05 am ET

Evergreen Solar Inc. will ship $100 million in solar cells over four years to SAG Solarstrom AG.

SAG Solarstron installs and runs solar-power stations, selling the generated electricity to corporations and utilities. The company is based in Freiburg, Germany, where the government offers significant subsidies for solar-power use.

Evergreen Solar (Nasdaq: ESLR - News) will manufacture the panels in Thalheim, Germany, and in Massachusetts. The company is based in Marlborough, Mass.

It is Evergreen's second major contract in the past four months, following a $70 million deal to supply PowerLight Corp. of Berkeley, Calif. That contract could escalate to $170 million over time.

In the third quarter, Evergreen lost $4.6 million on $11.2 million in revenue.
